The University may be closed for a number of reasons, including but not limited to inclement weather, natural disaster, inaccessibility of the campus, acts of violence, unsafe operating conditions, loss of work force, loss of utilities or technology, loss of facilities, etc.
Emergency Management is responsible for providing support and recommending appropriate courses of action to the University President or designee to facilitate informed decision making in the event of an incident that could warrant a University closure unplanned or under the Emergency Operations Plan. Depending upon the situation, the President may choose to cancel classes, close the University, delay class start times, dismiss classes early, or other actions that are appropriate for the circumstances. The scope may include all or parts of the main Normal campus and/or additional campus locations. The Emergency Operations Plan will outline considerations, steps, and communications for enacting closures, including considerations for students, employees and others on campus should a closure be enacted. The Plan will further address services that are essential to continuity of operation, even during a University closure, and expectations for continued performance of these services.
When time and conditions permit, the Emergency Operations Center will be open for the purposes of gathering information about the incident, identifying, and accessing impacts to University operations and developing well-informed recommendations.
