Emergency Management is responsible for the development and maintenance of the comprehensive, all hazards Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The EOP will outline the University's methods for responding to a variety of threats and hazards and is subject to periodic amendment and revision.
The Emergency Operations Plan shall:
- Follow formats prescribed by state and federal guidelines
- Establish overall administrative responsibilities
- Establish an emergency response organization structure that can respond to all hazards (I.e., natural-caused, technological, and adversarial/human-caused) to which the University may be reasonably exposed
- Outline response roles and responsibilities to provide a framework that follows National Incident Management System principles and processes and allows the University to coordinate with local, state, and federal emergency agencies during and after emergencies and disasters
- Prescribe the role of emergency response teams, employees, students, and guests relative to emergencies and disasters
- Provide for the development and maintenance of supporting emergency response plans
- Establish requirements for the development, execution, and review of trainings, drills, and exercises
- Prescribe the declaration of an emergency and activation of the plan
- Prescribe practices, contingency plans, and standard operating procedures for emergency operations
- Prescribe procedures for the use, operation and maintenance of the University emergency notification system, ISU Emergency Alert
- Include annexes and appendices for specific hazards, guidelines, emergency resource directories, and the like, as needed
The Emergency Management Department will coordinate the development and maintenance of hazard identification plans, prevention plans, training and exercise plans, hazard mitigation plans, continuity plans, and recovery plans. These plans complement the EOP by rounding out planning before, during, and after emergencies and disasters occur.
