Illinois State is committed to ensuring that holds for registration and graduation are used judiciously and only when necessary to support academic progress and uphold University policies, procedures, and/or requirements. Whenever possible, the University seeks to resolve issues proactively and provide students with timely information and resources to avoid unnecessary delays in registration or degree completion.
To support university policy and student success, students are subject to holds that prevent current-term or future-term registration when specific requirements are not met.
Registration and graduation holds are:
- Visible to students in the student portal and include a clear description of the reason for the hold and the required actions for resolving it. Students who believe a hold was placed in error should contact the office that placed the hold.
- Regularly reviewed and audited by a committee appointed by the Office of the Provost, including representatives from impacted units/departments to ensure alignment with university policies and student success priorities.
- Approved by the Provost if the type of hold is new.
