Policy
The statutes, rules and regulations of the State Universities Retirement System will prevail, unless modified by the Board of Trustees.
Eligibility
To be eligible for retirement services offered by the University, an employee must have fulfilled all the requirements for retirement as specified by the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (SURS), must have completed five years of employment at Illinois State University immediately prior to retirement (disability years will be considered as employment years), and in those last five years must have participated in the State Universities Retirement System. At the time an employee separates from the University, the separation notice must indicate that a person is requesting status as a retiree. Employees will not be retroactively updated to retiree status after a separation notice indicating resignation has been received.
