Termination of Appointment of Probationary and Tenured Faculty
A faculty appointment is deemed to expire on the last day of the calendar month in which the faculty contract or official notification of reappointment ends unless specified differently in the contract or notice of employment.
Those persons who hold academic rank and who are classified as tenure-track shall be guaranteed specific dates of notification concerning the University's decision not to renew their appointment. These dates are based on the length of service. Language regarding the guaranteed dates of notification for probationary faculty may be found in the Appointment, Salary, Promotion and Tenure Policies (see XI.A.2).
Every tenure-line faculty appointment must be accepted by the faculty member with the understanding that such an appointment entails no assurance or implication, except for the provisions for notification set forth in the ASPT, that it will be renewed or that tenure will be granted. Further information on the termination of a probationary or tenured faculty member's appointment may be found in ASPT, Article XII.A.6, the Illinois State University Constitution (Article Ill, Section 4.B.2.), and the Governing Documents of the Board of Trustees (Section C).
Nontenure Track Appointments
Nontenure Track appointments automatically terminate on the last day of the appointment period as set forth in the Notice of Appointment. No additional notice is required.
