7.2.1 Parking Lots and Spaces

Policy

Types of Parking Lots:

Blue Storage Lots - Blue lots are storage lots for residence hall students only.  An appropriate valid permit is required to park in these lots. Students with blue permits may leave their car in these lots 24 hours a day.

Green Commuter Lots - Green lots are for students living off campus. These lots require a commuter permit from 6:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. These lots are closed from 4:00 a.m. till 6:00 a.m.

Red Faculty/Staff Lots - Red lots are reserved for faculty and staff only. These lots require a faculty/staff permit from 6:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. These lots are closed from 4:00 a.m. till 6:00 a.m.

Motorcycle/Moped - Motorcycles/mopeds are considered any motorized vehicle with no more than three (3) wheels.  These vehicles must park in designated motorcycle areas and display a valid motorcycle decal.

After 5:00 p.m. vehicles displaying a valid faculty/staff or commuter permit can park in a red surface lot or red-signed reserved spaces until 4:00 a.m.

Cardinal Court and Shelbourne Apartment residents must have a valid CCT/SHB permit.  A current lease must be presented to Parking Services to purchase this permit. If a resident is an Illinois State University student and is going to commute to campus, a green commuter permit must be purchased.

Types of Parking Spaces:

Metered Spaces - Any parking space with a meter in front of it is considered a meter space. Meters are patrolled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and must be paid at all times.

Red Reserved Spaces - These spaces are reserved for the permit holder only from 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

White Reserved Spaces - These spaces are reserved for the permit holder only from 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Faculty/Commuter F35/F37 Areas - These spaces are located on the top level of the School Street and South University Street parking garages.

Business - Business spaces are for departmental and off-campus vendor use only.  Vendors and departments must purchase a permit from Parking Services to use these spaces. These spaces are for short-term use only, with a 3-hour limit.

Health - Temporary health permits may be purchased from Parking Services after Student Access and Accommodation Services has verified the need for one of these. These temporary permits allow a person to park in any surface faculty/staff lot for 24 hours.

Medical - Temporary medical permits may be purchased from Parking Services after Student Access and Accommodation Services has verified the need for one of these permits. Parking Services will then make the arrangements to accommodate the individual's needs.

A "Summary of Illinois State University Parking Regulations" is published by Parking Services annually.  This pamphlet includes current regulations and a campus map indicating the locations of specific types of parking.  This document is available from Parking Services upon request (438-8391).
