3.4.11 Administrative/Professional Staff Notification of Nonreappointment

Policy

Administrative/Professional staff are those appointed to academic support positions that are exempt from Civil Service by the University Civil Service Merit Board and whose primary responsibility does not include teaching or scholarly activity.

Administrative/Professional appointments shall guarantee the following notice of non-reappointment (except for designated Intercollegiate Athletic employees and those individuals on a non-continuing employment contract containing a non-renewal clause):

  1. One year or less of consecutive full-time service to the University: three months with the provision that termination not occur before the end of the current contract period except for cause.
  2. More than one year of consecutive full-time service to the University and less than three years: six months with the provision that termination not occur before the end of the current contract period except for cause.
  3. Three years or greater consecutive full-time service to the University: twelve months from the date of notice except for cause.

Each Administrative/Professional appointment entails no assurance or implication, except for the provisions for notification set forth above, that it will be renewed. Exceptions to the regular requirements shall apply if there are insufficient funds to continue an appointment. Upon bona fide reduction or elimination of an internal unit or any part thereof employing Administrative/Professional personnel, the University, as soon as possible after the decision is made to reduce or eliminate the unit or part thereof, shall give notice to the individual or individuals being displaced. Such decisions will be made by the President in accordance with the regulations of the Board of Trustees.

This policy applies to appointment positions and does not affect the University's right to reassign Administrative/Professional staff at any time during the term of an employment contract.
