4.1.6 Grading Practice

Policy

Grading is the prerogative of the faculty.  However, any grading procedure used to calculate final grades which deviates from the regular procedure as stated in the University catalog must explicitly be on an experimental basis. Guidelines must be clear and approved by the department, the Dean of the College involved, and the Vice President and Provost, and must have a clear design for evaluation.  Evaluation of students and award of credit must be based on professionally judged academic performance and not on matters irrelevant to that performance, as detailed in the Illinois State University Faculty Responsibilities to Students Policy (Policy 3.3.12A) and the Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy (Policy 1.1.1).
